White House looks to revitalize coal, power plant communities

The White House wants to revitalize regions that are home to coal or power plants.

A total of $38 billion dollars is available in existing federal funding to retain and create jobs in these energy communities.

Part of President Biden’s proposal includes allocating $75 million dollars to engineering carbon capture projects. Nearly $20 million dollars to extract minerals from coal and waste streams, and $15 million dollars for geothermal energy projects.

The initiative also provides $1.5 billion dollars for broadband access in these rural communities.
