A World War II submarine that sunk in February of 1944 has been found.
The USS Grayback was discovered roughly 50 miles from Okinawa, Japan, according to the Lost 52 Project which is dedicated to finding war subs. The USS Grayback, which was carrying 80 men when it sunk, was found more than 1,400 feet underwater.
It was on its 10th war patrol when it sunk and was the 20th most successful WWII submarine.
According to the Naval History and Heritage Command, the USS Grayback’s last mission was on Jan. 28, 1944 and it was slated to return to Midway a month before it was sunk.
