LaPorte, Indiana (AP)-- A herd of about 75 Holstein calves barreled down an Indiana highway after escaping a nearby farm.

Captain Derek Allen was off duty when he witnessed the herd running down the road in LaPorte Indiana. “It’s really important to note, these cows weren’t just walking, they were at a full gallop, if you will,” he told the South Bend Tribune.

He was able to get ahead of the cows and turned his lights on to warn other drivers.

Allen, another police officer, firefighters, and onlookers began attempting to corral the herd.

“I’ve been involved in many unique situations previously, but not something with this many animals on the roadway,” he notes.

They were able to contain a few, but the majority proceeded down the road.

All the cows were eventually accounted for and there were no injuries.
