Ag groups want more free trade agreements: “We’re falling behind global competitors”

It is not just lawmakers who are concerned with trade issues. Food and ag groups are calling on Congress to enable more free trade agreements.

NASDA is joined by groups like the National Pork Producers Council asking to renew the Trade Promotion Authority which expired back in 2021. NASDA says American agriculture is falling behind global competitors.

USDA data shows the U.S. will likely hit a trade deficit of upwards of $14 billion this year. The TPA is a fast-tracking authority for brokering agreements that could help.

The groups note the White House has signaled no interest in renewing the Trade Promotion Authority.
