The ag community tends to look after one another.
That is exactly what happened in South Dakota where cattlemen there just wrote a big check to help neighbors in need.
According to Ty Eschenbaum, A South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation Board Member:
“That’s one of the best parts is our partnership with Feeding South Dakota. We helped raise the funds and then they do all the hard work to get that beef to where it needs to be. So, it’s a monetary donation from us over to them, and they’re all set up to handle it from there. So, the total number over the last eleven years that we’ve given to them is just over $2.7 million, and they’ve turned that into well over 1.6 million pounds of beef and distributed to those that need it in all 66 counties in South Dakota. Banks are used to canned goods and non-perishable stuff, but to get beef and all the nutrients
that come with those calories to people that need it— it’s a pretty cool deal.”
Feeding South Dakota helps more than 100,000 people in the state who are struggling with food insecurity. Group leaders say that one of every six of those are children.
