Beef cow herds are almost near lows not seen in a decade.
This chart from the research arm of USDA shows the typical cattle cycle of expansion and contraction lasts anywhere from eight to 12 years. We are coming close to hitting 2014 numbers.
In January, inventories were 3.5 percent less than the previous year and nearly 93 percent were in states where most pastures were rated very low.
