Beef Grazing Network Targets Profitability Through Soil Health

The initiative plans to invest $19.5 million directly with producers to adopt adaptive grazing, improve soil health, reduce inputs, and strengthen market access.

LUBBOCK, TEXAS (RFD NEWS) — American Farmland Trust (AFT) is launching a redesigned Beef Producer Economic Resilience Initiative to help cattle producers improve profitability through sustainable grazing systems.

AFT’s Beef Grazing Network is now part of USDA’s Advancing Markets for Producers program. The $42 million project includes $30 million from the Natural Resources Conservation Service and will support 700 beef producers across the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Texas.

The initiative plans to invest $19.5 million directly with producers to adopt adaptive grazing, improve soil health, reduce inputs, and strengthen market access. The program will also use producer mentors, peer networks, and beef marketing groups to build a more consistent supply.

American Farmland Trust says the first producer grant application period is expected this summer. The first group of experienced beef producers is expected this fall, with additional grant pools planned next year.

The project is aimed at traditional live animal markets, direct sales, regional distribution, and larger food companies seeking sustainably grazed beef.
