President Trump has announced a sweeping overhaul of the beef industry as we head into the long holiday weekend.
He signed an executive order today, flanked, by farmers and Ag secretary Brooke Rollins, that addresses processing and predators.
The first deals with the recent closure of packing plants. The meat-processing order directs USDA to make it easier for small ranchers and processors to navigate federal inspection rules, potentially giving cattle producers more options beyond the big meatpackers.
The wolf order directs the Interior Department to review federal protection for gray and Mexican wolves, to return more management authority to the states.
The President says both moves will give ranchers significantly more control as they work to rebuild their herds.
