Electronic cattle tracking has been a big talking point in the cattle industry lately, and so have the associated costs. However, industry leaders are praising new spending looking to ease that burden.
A House Appropriations package included $15 million to help cattle producers cover the cost. Todd Wilkinson, the former NCBA Chief praised the move, saying it will go a long way to advance traceability.
He says the burden can be hefty for producers when purchasing the equipment, and he is glad they will not have to foot the entire bill.
Wilkinson says the data will be protected, and will only be used for disease traceability.
