On Wednesday, the annual Chincoteague Pony Swim kicked off!
Its return this year is extra special, however. This year is the first year that the ponies are the state’s official state pony.
The ponies will swim from Assateague to Chincoteague and then join the parade through town. This actually marks its 97th year. The ponies will swim back Friday where they will stay on the island till next year.
