The turkey industry may have seen less disruption from the pandemic than other livestock sectors, according to University of Minnesota Extension.
Brigid Tuck with the University speaks with RFD-TV’s own Janet Adkison on what factors contributed to the lack of impact and what the rest of the year looks like for producers. “A lot of it had to do with processing,” Tuck notes. “We are also a major hog processing state...we king of have one big plant and when that went down we had hog producers that didn’t have markets, but in Minnesota we have multiple facilities that process turkey and so when things get disrupted in one area we are able to shift to other areas and take some of that processing capacity and spread it out.”
