Helping young people help agriculture – that’s the inspiration behind Culver’s annual essay contest, which is just one aspect of their Thank You Farmers project. The contest awards monetary prizes to the winners’ local FFA chapters to help them cover convention expenses.
“This initiative,” explained Culver’s President and CEO Joe Koss, “that we’ve had for a number of years now is really to help show our appreciation for the great American farmers that provide the great food that we serve at Culver’s, but also to help financially support the future agriculture leaders of America. And this is just another way that we do that.”
For the 2018 essay contest, members we asked to use the 2017 National FFA Convention theme, “I Can, We Will,” and describe what the message means to them.
Katie Huff, a member of the Mount Vernon, IL FFA chapter, was the runner up, and won $5,000 toward’s he chapter’s convention expenses.
The first prize of $7,500 went to Luke Jennings, of the Felicity-Franklin, OH chapter.
To date, Culver’s Thank You Farmers project has raised nearly $2 million in support of the National FFA Organization, local FFA chapters, and a variety of local agriculture organizations.
