The coronavirus has caused massive border shutdowns in Europe, thus drastically affecting its ag labor force. The decrease in workers have also lead to export issues for the EU.
Europe’s problem may be the United States’ gain, according to some ag experts. Dave Salmonsen with the American Farm Bureau Federation states, “I think there could be opportunities, if they’re not able to have enough product...I certainly think there would be opportunities for our producers here if those markets open up into Europe.”
The EU has been the worlds leading food exporter, exporting food too many different countries. Salmonsen concludes, “There potentially could be market openings through the world for U.S. products.”
