FDA is proposing to reduce the minimum sugar content in pasteurized orange juice from 10.5 to 10 percent.
This update reflects damage from citrus greening disease that has lowered sugar levels in U.S. oranges. The change would help domestic growers and cut the need for imported fruit to meet outdated standards.
Public feedback on the proposal is open through November 4th.
