Samuel Timothy McGraw was born on May 1, 1967, in Start, Louisiana. In 1990, a demo of McGraw’s found its way into the ears of a music executive. From there, his career would take him to the top of the charts and even to the big screen. He also would go on to marry Faith Hill and become the modern-day power couple of country music.

Here are some of our favorite songs in celebration of his birthday!

“Just to See You Smile”

Written by Tony Martin and Mark Nesler, “Just to See You Smile” was released in 1997 as the third single of his Everywhere album. It would go on to set a record at the time for most weeks on the Billboard chart-- 42 weeks.

“Humble and Kind”

McGraw has had a long-running career-- and it still going. But, this 2016 song is considered to be one of the best in his discography. It reached the no. 1 spot on the country charts, was turned into a book, won “Song of the Year” at the CMAs, won “Best Country Song” at the Grammys, and is Oprah approved.

“Something Like That”

“Something Like That” was the second single off of his A Place In The Sun album and was the song of the summer in 1999 for most people.

“Live Like You Were Dying”

For many, this is the greatest song of his whole career. This song was released the same month he lost his father. It was the lead single off his 2004 album of the same name. It would go on to spend several weeks at no. 1 on the charts.
