Grain Co-Ops Going to Extreme Measures to Offset Market Swings

Grain merchandisers are taking measures to offset market swings. Some cooperatives have suspended cash bids, while others have moved to deferred contracts in an effort to mitigate volatility.

Iowa State Extension Economist, Dr. Chad Hart, spoke with RFD-TV’s Janet Adkison about what type of market volatility we’re seeing and its contribution, what impact it is having on co-ops and elevators, how grain merchandisers are working to offset the market swings and what he thinks we should expect moving forward.
