Over the years many holiday specials have become traditions. Many consider It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, the pinnacle of Halloween television specials. Great as it is, there are a number of other classics from yesteryear that you might have forgotten about. So, to dive a little deeper, let’s look at some other Halloween TV classics that are worth a look.
Garfield’s Halloween Adventure (1985) Garfield goes “trick or treating” dressed in a pirate costume. While seeking candy and treats Garfield ends up at a haunted house which scares up some laughs.
Halloween is Grinch Night (1977) Of course this makes perfect sense, a mash-up of the green villain of Christmas who makes an appearance on Halloween as Dr. Seuss’ Grinch terrorizes “Whoville.”
Mad Mad Mad Monsters (1972) Every list of Holiday TV specials needs at least one Rankin-Bass special and this is it for Halloween. Mad Mad Mad Monsters features appearances by all the classic monsters including Frankenstein, Dracula, werewolf, a mummy, Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Bugs Bunny’s Howl-Oween Special (1977) This compilation of classics features Bugs Bunny and many of the Looney Tunes characters in spooky situations.
Toy Story of Terror! (2013) The toys from Pixar get stranded at a mysterious roadside motel on the way to visit Bonnie’s grandmother.
Others to look out for include The Flintstones Meet Rockula and Frankenstone, featuring our favorite stone age family and the voice of Ted Cassidy (Lurch from the Addams Family), and Scared Shrekless, starring Dreamwork’s Shrek, the ever-popular ogre.
