Have you noticed deli meat is more expensive? Here’s why

Shoppers are once again noticing the pinch of inflation as food and drink prices rose nearly 1.5 percent from September through last month. New data from IRI shows the deli section is taking the brunt with prices coming in more than 12 percent higher than this time last year, with sale volumes shrinking 5 percent during the same time.

The cost of processed meat is 12.6 percent higher than a year ago while October saw a 1.4 percent increase over the prior month. Frozen meats saw a 13.6 percent jump in prices over last year with frozen poultry costing consumers nearly 20 percent more since a year ago.
