Home Depot is now in the boat market, but do not expect to find any vessels in the garden center.
The retailer reserved its own container ship to alleviate supply chain disruptions. The company is one of the largest importers in the country and it has had to buy products on the spot market recently, which can be four times as expensive as contracted rates.
Its dedicated ship begins routes next month, just ahead of the peak shipping season for holiday merchandise.
