A horse and a mule were rescued from neck-high mud by the Marion Fire Department in Massachusetts Sunday.
Crews used pulleys, straps and a sling to to lift the animals free. The rescue took a total of three hours and according to WCVB, both animals were having trouble breathing when the firefighters arrived but a veterinarian at the scene determined neither were injured after they had been lifted to safety.
“We are happy to say that both horses are recovering and well,” Marion Fire said on Facebook. “Special thanks to all the members of the department who worked tirelessly in this effort.”
