Hot Topic! Legislature is front of mind again following recent wildfires

Recent wildfires in New Mexico and Oregon are once again prompting legislative discussions. Many blame a lack of forest management.

Last September, the House passed a bill requiring USDA and the Interior Department to report on hazardous fuels reduction.

Representatives Bruce Westerman and Scott Peters introduced the Fix Our Forests Act to expedite project reviews. Senate Ag Committee Republicans also proposed Farm Bill changes for more flexible forest projects.

Last year, more than 56,000 wildfires burned nearly 3 million acres across the U.S.
