Pass the Pork is a new initiative to help feed Iowans. Gov. Kim Reynolds, Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig, and the Iowa Pork Producers Association launch this initiative to help bridge the food insecurity gap. The initiative will officially begins once the pigs are received on Friday.
Secretary Naig states, “You got pork producers that’ll donate the animal and then we work with some of our smaller meat processors, our meat lockers, to process the meat, and then that meat is ultimately donated to a food bank or food pantry...we just know there’s a tremendous amount of need by Iowans right now, and so it’s just another way for us to continue to try to focus on providing safe, nutritious food for folks.”
