Johannson: Don’t Mess With Crop Insurance

Do not mess with crop insurance, that is the message from the former Chief Economist at USDA.

He made the comments after the Biden administration proposed a $10 dollar per acre premium to farmers to encourage them to plant more crops in the wake of the war in Ukraine. Instead, Rob Johansson suggests using the Commodity Credit Corporation to help with the inputs needed to produce more crops.

He says that using the CCC will avoid picking winners and losers among commodities.
