A Summertime Nightmare!

Thousands of Texas brown tarantulas will be making their way across southeastern Colorado and southwestern Kansas looking for mates. They usually make this trek between August and October when they have reached sexual maturity at 10 years old.

The spiders are looking for undisturbed rangelands because that is where the females normally reside.

According to the head entomologist at the Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center, Mario Padilla, “This specific group of tarantulas is completely docile.” However, they may strike if provoked.
