Lawmakers say HPAI response requires an “all government approach"; Mexico to increase surveillance

U.S. Representative Ashley Hinson from Iowa says recent updates about the virus have been alarming.

She tells Brownfield Ag News it is a big hazard for producers and says responding to it will require an all-of-government approach, and it is not just U.S. officials closely watching the outbreaks.

Mexico is also taking action. The Ag Ministry is planning to increase surveillance of cattle entering the country for any signs of the disease. Health experts there will also take livestock samples for lab testing.

Mexico is a large market for U.S. exports of dairy. In 2022, sales to our southern neighbor hit $2.5 billion.
