Shelby Olson, President of Ledyard, CT FFA chapter, spoke with RFD-TV’s Janet Adkison, discussing how the chapter uses livestock to support themselves and their community.

Ledyard FFA, located in Connecticut, provides members with a hands-on education in animal science, agriculture business, horticulture, and leadership. The program provides it members full access to a wide variety of animals on its school farm. They raise turkeys for meat, chickens for eggs, Berkshire hogs, and a wide variety of fiber animals. Many of the products produced by this diverse livestock operation are donated to local food banks and shelters around the Ledyard area.

The Ledyard FFA chapter received a “Living to Serve” grant that they are using to produce vegetables for the Gemma E. Moran food pantry and educates younger students on gardening and how to live a healthier lifestyle.
