Monitoring Drought: A look at Western and Florida Panhandle conditions

Lush vegetation has been reported in California in this week’s U.S. Drought Monitor.

After years of record drought, Golden State farmers have been receiving widespread rain and snowfall, which is increasing soil moisture deficits and stream flow levels. Recent precipitation is also improving long term drought conditions across the rest of the region, with colors changing to a paler orange, meaning moderate drought.

Florida citrus producers were not as fortunate this week though, with short term drought expanding and increasing fire danger concerns.
