Nevada ranch that was built in the 1860s has hit the market for $15 million

Jacks Valley Ranch in Nevada’s Carson Valley has hit the market and is listed at $15 million dollars.
The property was built in the 1860s and the working ranch comes with plenty of history.

The operation spans 1,230 acres. The property has two barns that were built in the 19th century, a cemetery containing graves of pioneer families, and a sheepherder’s camp with a wooden cabin.

Notable owners of the ranch include the seventh governor of Nevada, oil tycoon Robert Lytle, philanthropist Max Fleischmann, and most recently, John Ascuaga, the man who built the Nugget casino in Reno-Sparks.
Also, John Wayne’s final movie, The Shootist, had scenes filmed there.

Ascuaga bought the ranch in 1969 for their primary residence. He acquired it to protect it from future development.
“My desire has always been to preserve the character of Jacks Valley and to maintain the ranch as a working ranch,” he stated at the time, according to Reno Gazette Journal.

Ascuaga passed away at the age of 96 back in 2021.
