Nearly 300,00 chickens died in a large fire in Southern New Jersey Monday morning.

According to CBS3, about 200,000 chickens died in the massive blaze and an additional 80,000 died when a nearby building housing them lost power.

The Mannington Fire Department told CBS3 it was very difficult to get water to the scene and crews thought they were responding to run-of-the-mill house fire. The Chief said it was the biggest fire he has had to battle in 60 years.

An investigation is underway into how the fire started.
