New USDA Funding: Improving rural health care and nutrition

The USDA is working to improve rural health care.

The Biden Administration is awarding $74 million in grants for rural towns. The funding will help 143 rural health care organizations expand critical services for three million people in 37 states, including Guam and Puerto Rico. The investment will help rural hospitals and health care providers implement telehealth and nutrition assistance programs, increase staffing, make necessary renovations and purchase medical supplies.

The USDA is also investing in dietary health and nutrition security. The department is funding almost $8 million to support the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Produce Prescription Program. Their projects provide incentives to help those in need purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. 17 projects are being awarded across the country.
