No Containment: South Fork and Salt Fires in New Mexico continue to ravage residents!

We are continuing to learn more about wildfires impacting the village of Ruidoso in New Mexico.

The devastating fires broke out on Monday and quickly spread, leading to evacuations of people and livestock. So far, nearly 21,000 acres have been consumed by the fire, resulting in the loss of an estimated 1,400 structures.
As of this morning, 0% of the fire is contained.

By Tuesday evening, the community of approximately 7,000 people was told to “go now and evacuate immediately”.

One of the area’s most well-known attractions is the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack.

The facility serves as home to anywhere between 500 and 900 horses annually, and even hosts the richest race in quarter horse racing— The All American Futurity.
With the evacuation in place, locals were quick to take action with some even taking to Facebook to offer pen space, trucks, and trailers.

Elevated wildfire conditions are expected to persist in central New Mexico through next Tuesday.
