Northwest Iowa is under very high crop fire danger amid dry conditions

The risk for crop fire is very high in Iowa right now. Almost no rain has fallen in the state this week, elevating fire risk in cropland, particularly in the western part of the state.

Northern portions of Iowa saw their first widespread freeze last week, but the forecast shows drier and warmer conditions for a while.

The state’s Secretary of Ag warns that farmers need to be vigilant about combine and field fire risks.
There have been at least three Iowa fires so far that are associated with this year’s harvest.
