NPPC says USDA should focus on larger, federally-inspected packing facilities

The pork industry says USDA should focus on larger meat processing facilities as it looks to revamp the industry.

Last week, the Butcher Block Act unanimously passed the House Ag Committee. It would set up a USDA grant program to expand small, regional facilities.

The National Pork Producers Council says small facilities are important to the supply chain, but it urges USDA to focus on larger, federally-inspected operations.

The Council says larger plants are more efficient.
