At around 2:00 AM on Monday, May 24th, first responders were called to a vehicle crash in Suffolk, Virginia. It was a single-vehicle wreck that involved an overturned tractor trailer hauling livestock.
Onboard the trailer was approximately 167 pigs. Twelve died in the accident and another 12 were later euthanized at the scene. The remaining pigs made it to their destination.
No one was seriously hurt in the accident, but the driver did have minor injuries. The driver was cited for failure to maintain proper control.
