Are you ready for California’s super bloom?!
Around this time, every few years, California’s wildflowers bloom in unison. It marks the end of the state’s winter season.
This well-timed bloom of poppies, sunflowers, desert lilies, and other flowers can be witnessed any many locations.
Fox40 released a few locations for both southern and northern parts of the state:
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve
- Chino Hills State Park
- Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park
- Eastern Kern County Onyx Ranch State Vehicular Recreation Area
- Red Rock Canyon State Park
- Tule Elk State Natural Reserve
- Mount Tamalpais State Park
- China Camp State Park
- Trione-Annadel State Park
- Sugarloaf Ridge State Park
According to the California Department of Parks and Recreation, “Although wildflowers bloom may adorn many areas in California, some of the most beautiful blooms take place in desert landscapes. Some areas in the extreme southern part of San Diego County are currently seeing small regional pockets of blooms in parts of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.”
A researcher at the University of California Riverside stated, “Seeds stored in the desert sands for 5, 10, or even 30 years respond to wetter-than-average conditions, creating carpets of yellow, white, and purple flowers.”
The last super bloom occurred in 2019!
