The U.S. pork industry has been able to duck any major outbreaks of African Swine Fever, but it is always a lingering concern.
One Michigan pork producer says biosecurity remains a major issue in the industry, and increased global trade only highlights those concerns. Consolidation is another concern. He tells Farm Progress opportunities in traditional production are slim for small producers.
The pork industry is also looking at ways to attract new consumers. The industry has struggled recently with younger generations, and he hopes to rekindle the passion seen in previous generations.
