High feed costs are leaving hog operations strained this year.
Swine specialists with Compeer Financial say elevated corn and soybean prices are impacting profitability for hog operations. They have examined 20 companies this year and found about $21 per head loss.
They tell Brownfield Ag News most of them have lost money since January.
They say hedging corn and soybean meal might be an option for pork producers to manage those high feed costs.
