Prohibition of Slaughterhouses: Proposed ordinance would ban meat processing in Denver

A controversial, citizen-proposed ordinance was made in Denver, Colorado that would prohibit the construction, maintenance, or use of meat processing facilities if passed.

A state representative and cattle rancher is voicing his concerns on how it will restrict market opportunities for the sale of livestock.
The ballot initiative titled “Prohibition of Slaughterhouses” is still in the signature stage.

If it gets enough names, the measure will appear on the April 2024 municipal election ballot.
