It is estimated that 70 percent of all salt marshes across the Eastern Seaboard have been lost, largely due to human development. These ecosystems often play a role in agriculture and aquaculture, and the University of Georgia is taking action to protect the coast.
Director of Marine Extension Dr. Mark Risse and Assistant Professor of Engineering Dr. Matt Bilskie spoke with RFD-TV’s Janet Adkison about the significance of sea grant universities, the impact salt marshes have on agriculture, and the program they are working on to save these ecosystems.
