Rural Health Matters: Early Signs and Symptoms of Arthritis

Dr. Jeffrey Gold joins us on Rural Health Matters to discuss the early warning signs of arthritis, the challenges facing rural populations, and steps individuals can take to manage joint health.

OMAHA, NEBRASKA (Rural Health Matters) — May is National Arthritis Awareness Month, bringing attention to a condition that affects tens of millions of Americans and remains the leading cause of disability in the United States.

Dr. Jeffrey Gold, President of the University of Nebraska, joined us on Wednesday’s Rural Health Matters segment on Market Day Report to discuss early steps in addressing arthritis.

In his conversation with RFD News, Dr. Gold outlined early signs to watch for, noting that arthritis often impacts older populations and can lead to significant physical limitations. He also discussed differences between rural and urban populations, particularly as many agricultural workers face physically demanding conditions that may increase risk.

Finally, Dr. Gold addressed whether arthritis can be slowed or prevented, as well as the initial steps individuals should take if they are experiencing joint pain. He also highlighted the role diet may play in managing symptoms and improving overall joint health.
