An 11-year-old boy in Maine is making a big impact on his peers.

Sam Rideout, better known in the Portland, Maine area as the “Sam the Bottle Man,” has raised more than $20,000 for the less fortunate.

Sam and his friends have been raising the money one nickel at a tine, by collecting bottles and cans throughout the year.

On Thursday night, he spent $10,000 of it on a shopping spree for Christmas presents for kids at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, where he was once hospitalized himself.

Sam did the same thing last year, raising more than $6,000 for the Children’s Hospital.

“Took a long time,” Sam told WGME13 about his Target shopping spree, “but it’s so much fun and knowing it’s going to the hospital, it’s a good feeling.”
