Sen Grassley calls for DOJ fertilizer investigation

Senator Chuck Grassley has sent a letter to Attorney General Garland calling on the Department of Justice to investigate the fertilizer industry.

He said in the letter that fertilizer is an essential input for farmers across the U.S.:

“Without fertilizer, crop yields and agricultural productivity would be significantly reduced. I have heard numerous concerns from Iowans and member organizations expressing concerns that fertilizer companies are colluding and unfairly raising the price of their products.”

Grassley also said in the letter that the DOJ should investigate the fertilizer market so that farmers can have assurances that there is no violation of antitrust laws in the industry.
