U.S. officials said Tuesday that they’re planning to send around 100 additional firefighters to Australia on top of the 159 who are already battling the blaze.
The wildfires have already killed 25 people, destroyed 2,000 homes, and killed nearly 1 billion animals.
The fires have burnt an area twice the size of the U.S. state of Maryland.
The firefighters are set to fly out next week and they are a part of the largest ever deployment of U.S. firefighters abroad according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
The U.S., Australia, and New Zeland have been exchanging firefighters for more than 15 years. The last time the U.S. sent firefighters to Australia was 2010.
