Florida Ag Commissioner: Unfair trade policies are devastating the state’s farmers

With USMCA now in force, Florida Ag Commissioner Nikki Fired testified at a USTR hearing regarding trade distorting policies. She stressed the need for timely remedies to protect U.S. seasonal farms from unfair Mexican trade practice.

“Unfortunately, for 25 years NAFTA has allowed the U.S. markets to be flooded with cheap produce from Mexico,” she said. “So, we’ve really gone after in making sure that when they’re renegotiating the NAFTA deal into USMCA, we were really hopeful that some of the unfair trade practices would have been addressed with this renegotiation.......Unfortunately, when finalized the solutions were not included. Our seasonal producers cannot afford to operate while these unfair trade practices continue to go unaddressed.”
