The biggest private owner of farmland in the United States is Bill Gates!
The “self described nerd” known for Microsoft Windows has a portfolio spanning more than 240,000-acres. The largest holdings include Louisiana, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Arizona.
It is not clear exactly how the farmland is being used, but the Gates Foundation did offer grants in 2008 for sustainable agriculture in Africa and Asia.
