Last week, Richard Musland pleaded guilty to two counts of cattle theft, which are Class C felonies.
The North Dakota man was sentenced on April 8th to serve 366 days in the county jail for his crimes; however, the judge later suspended the jail sentence.
Instead of jail, Musland is forced to pay more than $2,500 dollars in court fees and restitution, as well as serve 18 months on probation. He cannot buy any livestock while on probation and must have permission to sell any of his existing livestock.
“Another North Dakota cattle thief has had his day of reckoning. We are proud of our brand inspection team for fighting against modern-day cattle rustling,” North Dakota Stockmen’s Association Deputy Brand Inspector Fred Frederikson stated, according to AgWeek.
