As the western drought continues to impact agriculture, California lawmakers are looking to give payments to farmworkers.
They are considering a pilot project to pay workers $1,000 a month for three years. Lawmakers say climate change has limited water supplies, giving farmers fewer crops to tend to.
It is not clear how many farmworkers would qualify.
The state Senator, who sponsored the bill, says 8,500 agriculture jobs were lost last year to drought.
