Texas producers continue to feel drought impact

The drought continues to take a toll on Texan farmers.

In fact, a fourth-generation farmer from Sudan says that he was planting cotton this week and the soil felt like fine powder.

The area’s last significant rainfall was last August. Many farmers in west Texas are shoring up this year to be worse than the drought in 2011, which amounted to more than $7 billion dollars in losses for both crops and livestock.

While a higher percentage of the state was in drought back then, this year the difference is they went into spring with a lot less soil moisture.
