Dairy Debates: dairy provisions claim spotlight on Capitol Hill for Farm Bill talks

Throughout June, we have been highlighting National Dairy Month, but today, the industry claims the spotlight on Capitol Hill.

This morning, the House Ag Committee is holding a Farm Bill hearing on dairy provisions. The panel of witnesses includes dairy farmers and industry leaders, who are offering a first-hand perspective on the dairy safety net. Chairman David Scott calls it a crucial part of ensuring consistent production and availability of dairy products.

Contained within the safety net is the Dairy Margin Coverage Program created in the 2018 Farm Bill.

According to Rep. Scott, “This program provides more comprehensive coverage to small and medium-sized farms than any other programs before it. The Dairy Margin Coverage is extraordinarily important to your dairy farmers.”
