Making History: Cargo ship fuels tanks with biofuels

A cargo ship from Panama made history after filling up its fuel tanks with biofuel.

The ship, Heroic Ace, took on a full tank from another ship while in Singapore. The fuel was comprised of very low sulfur fuel oil blended with 20 percent used cooking oil.

The fueling company, Total Energies, says the exhaust produces roughly 17 percent less greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional fuel.
